How it Works

  • What is Hydrographics?

Hydrographics, also known as water transfer printing, hydro dipping, or immersion printing, is a method of applying printed designs to three-dimensional objects. It involves using a water-soluble film that contains the desired pattern or image, which is then transferred onto the surface of the object.

The process typically involves the following steps:

Preparation: The object to be decorated is thoroughly cleaned and primed to ensure proper adhesion of the design.

Base Coating: A base coat of paint is applied to the object in the desired color. This base coat provides a solid background for the design and helps the printed pattern adhere to the surface.

Film Activation: The water-soluble film with the printed design is placed on the surface of a water tank. Chemicals are then applied to the film, causing it to dissolve and become activated.

Dipping: The object is carefully dipped into the water tank, allowing the printed design to wrap around its surface. The water pressure helps to ensure even coverage and transfer of the design.

Rinsing and Drying: Once the object is fully immersed, it is removed from the water tank and rinsed to remove any excess film residue. It is then allowed to dry completely.

Clear Coating: Finally, a clear protective coating is applied to the object to seal in the design and provide durability and longevity.

Hydrographics can be used to decorate a wide range of objects, including automotive parts, sporting goods, electronics, and household items. It offers a versatile and customizable way to add intricate designs, patterns, and graphics to virtually any surface, making it popular for both personalization and commercial applications.

  • Colors, Patterns & Prints

Hydrographic films come in a wide variety of colors, patterns, and textures, offering endless possibilities for customization. Some common color options include:

Solid Colors: These films feature a single, solid color and are often used as a base coat for hydrographic printing. Popular choices include black, white, red, blue, and metallic hues like silver and gold.

Camouflage: Camouflage patterns mimic the look of natural foliage and are popular for outdoor and hunting equipment. They typically feature earthy tones like green, brown, and tan, arranged in patterns such as woodland, desert, or digital camo.

Carbon Fiber: Carbon fiber patterns simulate the appearance of woven carbon fiber materials, adding a sleek and modern look to surfaces. These patterns often come in black or gray and feature a distinctive woven texture.

Wood Grain: Wood grain patterns replicate the appearance of various wood species, including oak, walnut, maple, and cherry. These patterns are commonly used to give surfaces a rustic or natural aesthetic.

Marble: Marble patterns mimic the luxurious look of natural marble stone, with swirling veins and intricate patterns in shades of white, gray, black, and various colors.

Animal Prints: Animal prints such as leopard, zebra, tiger, and snakeskin add a bold and exotic touch to surfaces. These patterns are often used for automotive detailing, fashion accessories, and home décor.

Geometric Patterns: Geometric patterns offer a modern and abstract aesthetic, featuring shapes such as stripes, chevrons, hexagons, and diamonds in various colors and arrangements.

Custom Designs: In addition to standard patterns, hydrographic films can also be custom-designed to incorporate logos, graphics, and unique patterns tailored to specific preferences or branding requirements.

These are just a few examples of the diverse range of colors and patterns available in hydrographic films. With such a vast selection to choose from, individuals and businesses can easily find the perfect design to suit their needs and achieve the desired aesthetic for their projects.
